Looking for a small - medium sized dog (Marquette)

Hello, I have been wanting a dog for a while but I don't have a ton of money for huge "rehoming" fees, all I can promise is the dog would be well cared for and not left alone.
I am looking for a companion, I am an older guy with a lot of time on my hands.
I do moderate hiking and fishing and the pup would go on a lot of walks.
I do live in an apartment building that has a few dogs in it so the dog I am looking for has to be ok around other dogs, that's pretty much it.
Small to medium size would be best.
