Salary Range: Low to Mid $90,000 range/year (dependent upon experience)
The Director of Surgical Services responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
Plans, directs, supervises, coordinates and actively assists with the daily activities in the department within Surgical Services.
Assists medical staff leadership in the development of the surgical service in terms of scale and scope.
Lead the initiative to implement a strategic plan for the future direction of surgical services in collaboration with leadership.
Lead the performance improvement activities within the department and serve as department representative on interdisciplinary teams.
Lead the department in the development and review of policies, procedures, standards on behalf of the department as a multidisciplinary team leader.
Determines and maintains the staffing and scheduling patterns to provide coverage for the designated hours of operations in all areas of responsibility.
In tandem with Human Resources, is responsible for the hiring, disciplining and discharging of employees according to system policies.
Coaches and counsels staff as needed.
Coordinates cross-training and orientation of all staff within the areas of responsibility.
Assures the majority of staff receives appropriate cross training to achieve efficient staff use through flexibility in job roles.
Collaborates with physicians, all levels of management and other departments in planning for coordinated services for the patient.
Coordinates and integrates intradepartmental and interdepartmental services within the scope of responsibility.
Monitors, evaluates, and acts to improve the quality of surgical care rendered in the department of surgery.
Recommends departmental budget content and helps to monitor expenses for compliance.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled.
Participated in MSHS community activities to assist in the promotion of surgical services.
Assists in the recruitment/onboarding of potential surgical providers.

ACLS Certification - Required (3 month window offered to complete the certification class)
3-5 years' experience in a Surgical leadership position - Required

Mackinac Straits includes a 15-bed critical access hospital in St.
Ignace which houses a rural health clinic (St.
Ignace Medical Clinic), Emergency Room, Fast Care (Walk-in) Clinic, outpatient surgery center, six-bed infusion center and a 48-bed long-term care facility (Evergreen Living Center).
The Sault Ste.
Marie Tribal Health Clinic is also part of the St.
Ignace Campus.
Other outpatient services featured at the St.
Ignace Campus include radiology, cardiac rehab and physical therapy, along with a retail pharmacy.
Other locations include Bois Blanc Island Medical Center, Mackinaw City Medical Clinic, Mackinaw City Specialty Clinic, Mackinac Island Medical Center, and the Rivertown Medical Clinic in Cheboygan.

Mackinac Straits Hospital is a full service critical access hospital in St.
Ignace, MI.
