The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivery of quality health care services, focused on assessing and treating the mental health needs of patients, including mediation management services for patients who have mental health disorders or substance abuse problems.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team within the scope of his or her license, privileges granted, and under the supervision of assigned physician.
Education, Training, Licensing and Credentialing
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited psychiatric nurse practitioner training program
- Current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan and State issued specialty certificate
- Michigan license as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
- Registered, and have current DEA and other such certificates to legally operate as a practitioner in the State of Michigan
- Evidence of basic life support (BLS), or willingness and ability to obtain prior to, or upon hire
Experience and Skills
Required:
- Experience maintaining confidential information and adherence to HIPAA and CFR 42 Part 2
- Typing and computer skills including use of email and documentation in electronic health record
Preferred:
- Minimum two years experience working within a medical clinic
- Experience with telemedicine
- Knowledge of case management functions and chronic disease model
- Demonstrated experience or understanding of team-based care in a medical home
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and chronic conditions
- Experience with solution-focused, brief therapy interventions
- Experience using motivational interview techniques
