Description: Job Purpose The Behavioral Health Therapist provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and care management services to individuals and groups relating to mental illness and or emotional problems in a community- based treatment setting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities A review of this description has excluded the marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties.

Essential Duties Interviews individuals to obtain information concerning clinical history for a psychosocial assessment.
Completes an initial Bio-psychosocial assessment.
Provides linkage, referral, and ongoing case management monitoring for assigned individuals requiring long term case management supports.
Services provided may include individual, group, family therapy, psychosocial assessments, mental status exams, diagnosis, and care management.
Provides referral, linkage, or administration (psychologist) for various tests such as psychological tests, personality inventories, and intelligence quotient tests, to identify behavioral or personality traits and intelligence levels, and ensures results are integrated into the individual plan of service.
Plans and administers therapeutic treatment and/or intervention to assist individuals in controlling disorders and other problems, utilizing methods and/or techniques consistent with known professional best practices and ethical conduct.
Changes method and degree of therapy when indicated by individual reactions.
Consults with treatment team concerning the plan of service and amends plan as recommended.
Provides for consultation, reporting, coordination and referral to other agency staff and programs, community organizations, or external health care professionals as determined to be clinically appropriate.
Conducts measurement of individual clinical outcome and individual satisfaction as directed.
Will maintain workload as established in policy.
Participates in community education activities, staff training in-service, and continuing professional development as directed.
Ensures that case records follow Northpointe policies and all other regulatory bodies requirements.
Performs Clinical Peer Reviews of assessments that resulted in a denial of CMH services (i.
e.
, Second Opinion Assessments).
Assures that a plan of service for each individual is developed, implemented, reviewed, and updated on a regular basis, with input from individual.
Provides contacts as needed and documents these contacts within a 24-hour period in individual’s record.

Has the authority to perform SSI level of care determinations based upon acquisition of placement responsibility which will then require negotiations with Social Security Administration office to work out arrangements for processing SSI applications.
Provides OBRA assessments upon request following training.
Team Lead Specific Duties Serves as a resource to the clinical staff and is responsible for the overall orientation and training of new staff in their respective counties as a clinical mentor.
Organizes/oversees/conducts team meetings and facilitates communication to the outpatient team as requested.
Provides individual/group supervision as requested.
Engages in problem resolution for day-to-day matters.
Coordinates and ensures emergencies and/or referrals for immediate crisis intervention are responded to within required time frames in collaboration with other leads/managers/directors.
Coordinates with Northpointe’s Facilities Department r to ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for individuals, employees, and the community.
Participates in teams and activities as requested.

Education, Certifications, and/or Experience Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling Michigan license requirements Limited Licensed Master’s Social Worker or Licensed Master’s Social Worker* Limited Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Psychologist* Limited Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Professional Counselor* Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor Must obtain full clinical licensure (i.

, LMSW, LLP or LPC) within 6 months of being eligible for such licensure.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Experience working with individuals with a developmental/intellectual disability and/or mental illness preferred.

Knowledge and Skills Must be knowledgeable and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
Knowledge of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Medicaid Provider Manual, and Michigan Mental Health Code preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical requirements and regulatory requirements applicable to the agency.
Ability to write individual plans of service, communications, and training.

Ability to effectively communicate and present information to a varied audience which may include staff, contract providers, and community members.
Ability to analyze data to identify areas of opportunity and to organize data into meaningful formats such as reports, graphs, etc.
Ability to research best practice, guidelines, and mandated requirements.
Ability to effectively educate and provide thorough training using a variety of means to meet the needs of the audience.
Knowledge of the basic sciences underlying mental health practice in a community setting and ability to apply these principles to clinical practice.
Able to work with limited daily supervision and make accurate, rapid, independent decisions regarding planning, scheduling, and professional practice.
Ability to travel as required to attend meetings and training.
Participation in training and education as necessary to maintain current competency(s) in skill areas essential for implementing job duties and responsibilities.

For therapists working with co-occurring individuals: Demonstrates the ability to identify, assess, and link and coordinate substance abuse treatment needs.
Demonstrates full understanding of substance abuse diagnoses and treatment modalities.
Demonstrate the ability to work and empathize with the aged, chronically/terminally ill; demonstrate full understanding of the OBRA PASARR screening regulations; and demonstrate awareness of aging network and issues.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks, demonstrate effective organizational and time management skills, meet required time frames, and document activities in accordance with policies and procedures.
Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, be able to present information to a variety of professionals and the general public.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services to children and families served by Northpointe.
Strong team skills and the ability to work effectively as part of different group projects.
