Summary:
The Surgical Scheduler in the physician office practices assists the Physician and other staff so the office runs efficiently.
The surgical scheduler educates and prepares the patient for surgical procedures, collects the appropriate informed consent forms and prepares the surgical packet.
The surgical scheduler provides direct patient care services such as routine vital signs and gathers pertinent medical history.
The surgical scheduler educates and prepares the patient for office procedures and assists the doctor in the collection and preparation of specimens.
Under the direct supervision of the physician, the surgical scheduler may administer injections.
As directed by the physician, the surgical scheduler notifies patient of test results and the recommended plan of care.
Responsibilities:
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
Medical assistant or LPN required or plan to attain within 18 months.
Two years experience in the medical office setting required.
Current BCLS required.
Knowledge of triage parameters preferred.
Operating knowledge of basic business machines, including computers.
General filing knowledge and ability to operate basic office machines.
Able to handle money, patient bills and perform simple mathematical equations.
Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables when only limited standardization exists.
Ability to recognize potential problems and report items to the office coordinator or physician.
Must have the ability to work independently and organize several projects.
Able to remember multiple messages, information and task assignment for up to an assigned shift.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be met.
Able to transfer up to 125 pounds, with assistance, while lifting, positioning and transferring patients.
