Job Description/Scop of Work:
Provide Catholic religious ministry services, including Mass, sacraments, and pastoral care, to Catholic Veteran
patients at the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center (VAMC).
Work collaboratively with other chaplains and hospital
staff to ensure the spiritual needs of patients are met.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct weekly Mass, distribute Communion (including bedside), complete reports, and perform services for
Holy Days of Obligation, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday.
* Provide Communion and other sacraments (e.
g.
, Anointing of the Sick) to Catholic patients who may not
regularly attend Mass or have health challenges.
* Respond promptly to patient and staff requests for assistance, demonstrating a friendly and cooperative
manner.
* Listen to feedback from patients and staff, resolve complaints within the scope of responsibilities, and report
feedback to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) in a timely manner.
* Communicate clearly and precisely, ensuring that others understand the provided information.
* Collaborate with other chaplains and volunteers to ensure comprehensive spiritual care for Veterans.
* Share relevant non-confidential information with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure continuity of
care.
* Maintain accurate records of all chaplain service volunteer contacts and provide workload reports to the
Voluntary Service office.
* Provide religious services in the VAMC chapel, general pastoral care, Mass (when requested), and emergency
call-back for Anointing of the Sick (Last Rites) when the full-time Catholic priest is unavailable.
* Arrange for the appropriate atmosphere and symbolism for worship services.
* Provide religious instruction, discussions, classes, and distribute literature to patients as required.
* Ensure opportunities for free exercise of religion and protection from proselytizing for all patients.
* Maintain a collaborative and collegial relationship with the institution staff.
Qualifications:
* Proof of ordination as a Catholic priest
* U.
S.
citizenship
* Master of Divinity degree or equivalent religious education
* Ecclesiastical endorsement (within 12 months of obtaining the position)
* Complete at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (within 12 months of obtaining the position)
* Fluency in written and spoken English
* Registration with Selective Service or valid exemption
* Proof of specialized chaplaincy service training (if applicable)
* Ability to be on-site within 2 hours of emergency call-back notification
