org* *Job Description* *JOB TITLE: * Ojibwe Culture & Language Teacher *CLASSIFICATION:* Full time, school-year, exempt *SUPERVISES:* None *REPORTS TO:* Principal *POSITION SUMMARY:* This is an instructional position responsible for continued development and implementation of a comprehensive, integrated Anishnabe history, language, and culture educational program for Bahweting School.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: *ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:* 1.
Continue to develop and implement a comprehensive Ojibwe history, cultural and language curriculum as part of the daily instruction for all grades.
2.
Provide direct instruction in Ojibwe history and culture to all grades according to the curriculum schedule.
Work with staff to develop thematic units.
Model teaching methods.
3.
Provide in-service and assistance to teachers with integration of subject matter into units of instruction, as needed and requested.
4.
Implement and maintain thematic units on tribal history and origins, incorporating oral and written history, for instructional purposes.
5.
Teach cultural concepts in conjunction with the Ojibwe language classes.
6.
Coordinate development and implementation of culture and language enrichment activities.
Includes determination of activities and identification and recruitment of community resource people 7.
Provide direct and advisory assistance to staff to support fine and performing arts programs, i.
e.
: native theater, dance programs, traditional arts and music.
8.
Develop and support family outreach to encourage participation and support of culture and language within families and communities.
9.
Provide data and information for school reporting needs.
10.
Must hold and maintain current CPI certification in verbal de-escalation and physical restraint (training provided by the school district).
11.
Other related duties as assigned.
*ACCOUNTABILITY:* 1.
Responsible for appropriate and meaningful instruction to foster the academic growth and achievement of students.
2.
Responsible for the safety and well being of all students assigned to classroom or area of instruction.
3.
Reasonable and appropriate expectations of understanding and expanding the Native American culture.
*CONTACTS:* Has contact with students, staff, parents, community members, School Board members, Intermediate School District personnel, consultants, vendors, and Charter Authorizers, and volunteers.
*QUALIFICATIONS:* 1.
Minimum Bachelor's degree from four year college.
2.
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Permit.
3.
Ojibwe Language Instruction diploma preferred.
4.
Prior teaching experience in field of Native studies preferred.
5.
Curriculum development post-graduate course work and 2 years experience preferred.
6.
Knowledge and experience with the Ojibwa language and culture and ability to apply that to grade levels K-8.
7.
Experience in the instruction of tribal history.
8.
Knowledge of tribal community resources.
9.
Demonstrates good communication skills with parents and professionalism in a variety of situations.
10.
Must complete and pass a criminal history background check according to applicable laws and school board policies.
11.
Must comply with all rules and regulations pertaining to safety.
12.
Must be able to speak English (speak, read, write, and comprehend).
*WORKING CONDITIONS/SAFETY HAZARDS:* 1.
Interaction with a wide variety of students, including those with special needs.
2.
May be exposed to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.

Other than the superintendent, under the direction of the JKL Board of Directors, no supervisor, manager, or other person, irrespective of title or position, has authority to alter the at-will status of your employment or to enter into any employment contract for a definite period of time with you.
Any agreement with you altering your at-will employment status must be in writing and signed by the school superintendent.
