*Position: *This is a newly created Restorative Nursing Assistant (RNA) position for the skilled physical therapy assistant.
The RNA is to provide direct and/or indirect patient care under the direction of a restorative therapy Plan of Care developed by the physical therapist, occupational therapist, and/or, speech and language pathologist.
The RNA is supervised by the Restorative Therapy Program Manager and/or the Director of Rehabilitation.

We’d LOVE to hear from you! *CANAL VIEW ~ HOUGHTON COUNTY* *Job Description* *Job Title: * Restorative Nursing Assistant *Position Reports to: *Restorative Therapy Program Manager and/or Director of Rehabilitation *Position Summary:* The restorative therapy program assistant (RNA) provides Restorative Therapy Step Down Programs (RTSDPs) to restore and/or maintain the resident’s highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being as directed by therapists, nursing, and/or therapy assistants.
This includes direct and/or indirect resident care, program planning and implementation, related documentation and communication, all while adhering to applicable policies and procedures established at Canal View Houghton County.
*Position Schedule: *Monday – Friday, 0800-1630 *Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* * Optimizes the physical abilities and skills of residents by providing the following step-down programs: mobility-related activities of daily living retraining, functional ambulation, balance retraining, active/passive range of motion, strengthening exercises, turning schedules, self-care activities of daily living retraining, bowel and bladder retraining, maintaining upper/lower extremity splinting scheduling, cognitive training, swallowing exercises, and implementation of restorative dining programming.
* Implements programs established by therapists and/or nursing to achieve identified goals identified on the Plan of Care (POC).
* Coordinates programs with the resident, family members, and other interdisciplinary team members with consideration of personal preferences and goals.
* Assists in establishing individual resident schedules in conjunction with other team members.
* Monitors resident’s participation and response to programs.
Discusses any potential revisions with the Restorative Therapy Program Manager (RTPM) and/or referring therapy staff member prior to implementation.
* Documents daily the results of resident’s program, follow-up, and termination of services with the direction of the RTPM and/or referring therapy staff per policy and procedure.
* Reinforces previous training to assist the floor staff in the use of mobility aides and application of adaptive devices, orthotics, or prosthetics.
* Consults with other team members in coordinating the resident’s programs.
* Participates in discharge planning to transition residents to the floor nursing staff and/or dietary staff.
* Assists in the review of the quality and appropriateness of the total services delivered and of individual programs for effectiveness and efficiency, using predetermined criteria.
* Participates in resident, family member and staff education when directed.
* Meets monthly with the RTPM to review current resident’s programs in preparation for upcoming quarterly MDS assessments and to provide input for the residents’ care plans.
* Attends in-service training and department meetings as required.
* Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development to maintain licensure.
* Submits documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Assists in the collection of statistics as directed.
* Provides programs in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures and efficiency standards.
* Maintains a clean and safe work area by cleaning and disinfecting the rehab equipment daily, particularly, after every use any equipment utilized requires disinfecting.
The RTPA will adhere to facility/corporate safety standards - will maintain a clean and orderly work environment/treatment area.
* Ensures appropriate supplies are always maintained in the department.
* Complies with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
* Assumes responsibility for assignment(s) in the event of a disaster/emergent need to assist the floor staff in the direct care of the resident – same as all Rehabilitation staff employees.
* Must have a positive attitude under pressure and in a very busy environment.
* Must have a positive attitude toward correction and continuous improvement.
* Must have the ability to work under minimal or direct supervision.
* Maintains positive relationships and rapport with coworkers, residents, family members and other interdisciplinary staff members.
* Reports to work on time and coordinates schedule to achieve maximum efficiency during assigned shift.
Tardiness or absence from the assigned shift must be reported immediately and in a timely manner to the RTPM.
Ability to work varying hours as needed.
* Assists with and participates in Process Improvement programs as required.
* Adheres to established HIPPA regulations and maintain confidentiality standards concerning community and patient information.
* Projects a positive and professional image at all times and will always maintain professional communication whether verbal or electronic.
* Assist in the transporting of residents to and from treatment, dining, and/or to their rooms.
* Assisting with restorative therapy and/or skilled therapy clerical duties as needed.
* Assists with resident transfers/lifting as needed.
* Maintains current licensure whether PTA, COTA, or CNA.
* Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
*Minimum Job Requirements and Position Qualifications/Requirements:* * *Preference will be given to applicants in the following order of qualification: * * *Associates Degree from *a CAPTE/NBCOT accredited program with a valid and current license to practice as a physical or occupational therapy assistant in Michigan.
* CNA certified staff with prior restorative experience and able to demonstrate competency of Restorative tasks.
* CNA certified staff able to demonstrate competency of Restorative tasks.
* CNA certification.
*Physical Requirements and Work Environment:* Physical requirements for this position are classified as medium under the Department of Labor classification.
The employee must be capable of: * Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (less than 1/3 of the time) and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently (1/2 of the time) and/or up to 10 pounds constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to move objects, equipment and/or residents.
* While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit stoop, kneel, bend or crouch, use hands to manipulate tools, equipment, or controls.
* Reach with hands and arms with functional upper extremity range of motion and strength.
* The employee is required to demonstrate typical balance, appropriate ergonomic lifting techniques, and the ability to perform resident transfers that require moderate to maximum assistance with use of the gait-belt.
* The employee is required to have the visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess client safety and levels of performance.
* The employee works mostly inside client rooms and/or therapy gym.
* This position is classified as Category I for the purpose of exposure determination under the OSHA regulations regarding the Standard of Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens (29 CFR 1910.
1030).
* Category I is defined as all procedures or job-related tasks that involve an inherent risk for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills and/or splashes of blood or body fluids.
The use of protective equipment and measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
The essential functions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the basic functions of a RTPA.
