*POSITION SUMMARY* The Infection Prevention Nurse is responsible for the effective direction, management, and operation of the facility’s infection control program.
The IP will obtain and/or maintain certification in both the role of the IP as well as for Antibiotic Stewardship.
The Education Nurse coordinates and conducts orientation of new hires and coordinates the educational needs of the Facility.
This position reports to the Director of Nursing and is an integral part of the management team.
*PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS* Current RN License in the State of Michigan.
Experience in LTC/Geriatric nursing preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Experience in adult education and learning concepts/principles preferred.
*PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* · Monitor residents and staff for infectious processes.
· Develop and update policies and procedures that minimize the spread of infection.
· Maintain resident and staff logs of infections.
Investigate and report confirmed infections in quarterly reports and graphs.
· Report outbreaks of infections to the Medical Director, the Director of Nursing, and the Health Department as required by the Michigan Department of Health rules.
· Educate staff on current standards, policies, and procedures requiring infection control.
· Collect, analyze, and interpret health data in order to plan, implement, evaluate, and disseminate appropriate health care practices.
· Participate in and initiate Quality Assurance Performance Improvement initiatives and Performance Improvement Projects.
Be a member of QA Committee · Maintain the Antibiotic Stewardship program.
· Serve as a leader and a resource to nursing staff in clinical and managerial decision-making; assist with implementation of physician orders as needed.
· Assure staff comply with Facility policies and procedures via completing rounds to monitor and observe staff as well as through chart review; correct problems and provide education as needed · Meet with staff to communicate information and changes or additions in policies and procedures.
· Assure problems and complaints are managed in a timely and appropriate manner.
Available to receive and address complaints that may arise and communicate any received complaints to the Director of Nursing/Administrator.
· Coordinates CPR training and testing required for certification.
Required to keep up to date files of certification renewals.
· Plan, develop, direct, and coordinate the educational program for the Facility to include the required programming mandated by Federal and State guidelines.
Provides individual and specialized training as needed for staff.
· Participates in developing, implementing, and collecting data for the Facility’s Quality Assessment & Assurance (QA&A) program; identifies own areas for QA&A review in addition to those areas requested by the Director of Nursing · Assists and participates in activities related to Facility inspections or investigations by regulatory or accrediting agencies · Coordinates annual clinical skills testing of CNAs, licensed nurses and other departments; coordinates staff skill competency checks as applicable.
· Works closely with scheduling managers to fulfill required certification renewals.
· Participates in developing, implementing, and collecting data for the Facility’s Quality Assessment & Assurance (QA&A) program; identifies own areas for QA&A review in addition to those areas requested by the Director of Nursing · Willing to be flexible to meet education needs of employees on various shifts.
· Coordinate Facility wide orientation for all new hires.
Develop, implement, and maintain an effective orientation program to orient new staff to the Facility, its policies and procedures, and to their job duties.
· Ensure all staff are assigned the appropriate education through Relias and follow up with department heads to ensure it is completed.
· All other duties as assigned.
*SUMMARY OF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES* Bloodborne Pathogens: Tasks and Procedures performed by employee involves risks classified by CDC as: CATEGORY A Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucus membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills, splashes of them.
*POSITION AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY* Position Reports to: Director of Nursing Position Supervises: None.
*COGNITIVE AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS* *Talking:* Necessary for communicating with others.
*Hearing:* Necessary for taking instruction from others and listening to equipment when troubleshooting to determine necessary repairs.
*Sight:* Necessary to perform effective repairs of building and equipment.
May also be delegated in certain circumstances.
*Smelling: *Necessary for the detection of smoke, hot motors, gas, oils, and other fumes or odor which are potential health concerns.
May also be delegated in certain circumstances.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $35.
00 - $40.
