*SALARY*: Grade 5 (Minimum starting wage = $17.
43/hr.
)
*QUALIFICATIONS*:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Must have breastfed at least one child
· Must be enthusiastic about breastfeeding and want to help mothers enjoy a positive experience.
· WIC Experience or knowledge is preferred.
· Experience or knowledge of the local tribal community is preferred.
· Must maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards.
· Must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to speak effectively to individuals or before groups of people.
· *F*amiliarity with resources available to clients, questions new breastfeeding mothers may ask, and recognition to refer a mother to other resources.
· May assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding throughout the community.
· Strong organizational and data management skills
· Must possess a valid, unrestricted state driver’s license, and a good driving record, and must be insurable to operate fleet vehicles.
Travel may be required.
· Must be available outside of usual clinic hours and outside of the WIC clinic environment (after-hours availability).
· Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in the Child Abuse and Neglect Policy.
· Must be able to obtain a satisfactory clearance in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act Background Investigations Policy.
· Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory result of a Security Background Check, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and a Pre-Employment Physical.
*INDIAN PREFERENCE*: Preference will be given to qualified individuals of American Indian descent.
*VETERAN PREFERENCE*: Preference will also be given to Veterans who do not have bad conduct or dishonorable discharges (need DD214).
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*:
Give basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to help women initiate and continue breastfeeding
Assist WIC in providing education/ counseling for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by phone or in the WIC Clinic.
Create and maintain contact and communication with breastfeeding clients throughout the experience.
In conjunction with WIC provide educational information on all aspects of breastfeeding: Postnatal period, breastfeeding problems, available classes, care and use for breastfeeding pumps, hand expression, and storage of breast milk.
Maintain data forms, data entry, charts, schedules, and tracking logs.
Keep accurate records of all contacts made with WIC mothers
Attend and assist with prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups.
Maintain objectives and professional standards.
Assist and participate in committees/ teams with other organization activities as directed by the supervisor.
When needed provide or refer clients to appropriate health or social service agencies, including outside community resources, for situations outside the scope of practice.
Attend training as directed by supervisor (Mandated Reporter, HIPAA, CPR/First Aid, etc.
).
Must maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
