POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant, under the direction of the Senior Accountant, performs a variety of accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely completion of work in one or more areas, such as: accounts payable, cash, gaming and non-gaming accounting, fixed assets, inventories and other related areas.
The position is also responsible for assisting professional staff in daily entries and monthly financial statement preparation.
The position must provide attentive, cheerful, courteous, professional customer service to all customers, both internal and external, striving to always exceed their expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following) Audits, reconciles, compiles, and evaluates daily financial information and financial statement preparation.
Maintains automatic and recurring journal entries.
Prepares journal entries, whether recurring or non-recurring.
Develops, reviews, and distributes standardized reports which relate to the Kewadin Casinos Gaming Authority operation and performance.
Prepares non-standardized financial reports as requested.
Maintains and balances sub-ledgers to general ledgers.
Records and reconciles asset and liability accounts and revenue and expense accounts recorded in the general ledger.
Ensures the recording and tracking of all fixed assets of the Gaming Authority and posting of depreciation.
Prepares financial statement supporting schedules on a regular basis.
Provides assistance and fulfills requests for information from external parties such as internal auditors, externals auditors, and management.
Assists management with daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual activities.
Develops working knowledge of Kewadin Casinos operating and financial accounting software, such as: JD Edwards, Bally SDS, Casino Marketplace, Visual One, InfoGenesis, Eatec, Transched, credit card processing software, and miscellaneous gaming and hospitality operating/ancillary systems.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following) Ensures Casino departments are made aware of and follow all accounting policies and procedures.
Ensures all financial activity is recorded and reported in a timely fashion.
Maintains adherence to sound internal control standards.
Attends meetings and required trainings as directed.
Complies with all Kewadin Casino Gaming Authority policies and procedures.
All other job-related duties as assigned.
CONTACTS: Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, executives, customers and outside vendors/service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position is light with lifting of 20 pounds and frequent lifting of 10 pounds.
Physical factors include constant use of hearing, near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, color/field of vision and typing; frequent standing, walking, sitting and occasional carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, reaching and manual handling.
Working conditions include occasional exposure to noise, vibration and air quality.
Potential hazards include exposure to equipment and computer use and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts.
Position requires normal hearing range, normal vision range, and absence of color blindness, requires the ability to distinguish letters, number, and symbols.
REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or five (5) years demonstrated ability in relevant work experience may be substituted for education required.
Experience: One year of accounting experience preferred.
Certification/License: Must undergo a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission.
Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have working knowledge and be able to use office machines, such as calculator, copier, fax, printer and computer.
Must have working knowledge and be able to use word processing and spreadsheet and data base software.
Must have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate clearly in person, in writing, and by telephone and email.
Knowledge of property management software (hotel), point of sale (POS) software, casino management software, and/or JD Edwards preferred.
Working knowledge of internal control system policies and procedures as they relate to Kewadin Casino Gaming Authority's daily operations preferred.
Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisory personnel, coworkers, subordinates and the general public.
Must be able to analyze problems and data, and to develop responsive and effective solutions.
Must be able to respond to difficult and stressful situations in an effective and positive manner.
Must be able to work in a high stress environment and handle difficult situations.
Must be able to perform in a high-pressure environment that requires prioritizing objectives and meeting deadlines.
Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, journal entries, and date entry procedures, including accounts payable, receivable processing, bank reconciliation procedures, and inventory processes required.
Knowledge of accounting department workflow, organization's structure, and operational policies and procedures preferred.
Knowledge of Tribal/Casino organizations structure, divisions, departments, management and key staff and other appropriate contacts preferred.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and Tribal/Casino policies and regulations preferred.
Knowledge of Sault Tribe Human Resources management policies and procedures preferred.
Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision.
Must maintain confidentiality.
Native American preferred.
