POSITION SUMMARY:
All Accounting & financial reporting work necessary to make journal entries for the day-to-day financial transactions of Bay Mills Indian Community (BMIC), Bay Mills Gaming Authority (BMGA), and Bay Mills Business Holdings (BMBH) in compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the integrity of applicable general ledgers for assigned areas.
Coordinates the completion of the balance sheet account analysis.
Reviews cost center and chart of accounts structures.
Makes recommendations as to cost center\account structure that will identify the nature of expenses to their proper area and assists in controlling annual expenditures via direct review of information.
Prepares, verifies, and controls the entering to journal entries to the general ledger.
Evaluates subsidiary journals for obvious errors and omissions and enters corrected data into the general ledger.
Performs all tasks associated with the general ledger, i.
e.
enters monthly journal entries and executes month-end closing entries.
Reviews monthly balance sheet and income statements to ensure accuracy ahead of, or as part of, the monthly close.
Coordinates monthly closing and production of financial statements to ensure timely reporting, in collaboration with the Controller/Assistant Controller.
Assists with the review, redesign, and enhancement of the financial statements to ensure that the information entered agrees with the information reported to properly reflect the company’s financial position, in collaboration with the Controller/Assistant Controller/CFO.
Assists in reviewing and updating monthly closing procedures.
Subsidiary Schedules: Reviews supporting schedules to ensure accounting practices are being maintained and makes recommendations, where applicable.
Prepares reports for managers and applicable employees, as needed.
Reviews and documents present accounting practices and procedures.
Maintains a professional working relationship with applicable department managers, other employees, and co-workers.
Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position’s essential functions.
Must attend any and all trainings offered through the Bay Mills Human Resources Training Department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit with occasional walking and standing.
Occasionally, the employee must bend, crouch, kneel, push/pull, and be able to reach above shoulder level.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The employee is required to use their hands for repetitive action such as simple grasping of a pen or pencil.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Associates degree in Accounting or Business Administration required, or individuals actively working toward a degree.
Individuals without a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting will be asked to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting within 3 to 5 years.
Experience may be used in lieu of that requirement.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with 1 to 3 years’ experience preferred.
Knowledge of computers and computer applications, including Word and Excel, with a desire to learn how to use Sage Intacct (BMIC’s Accounting software).
Excellent communication skills required.
Must have an excellent past work record as demonstrated through references with past employers and co-workers.
